Reds Rumors: Cincinnati will do everything they can to re-sign Shin-Soo Choo

At the end of the season, the Cincinnati Reds will have one of their most important hitters hit the free agent market. No, it's not Joey Votto. It's Shin-Soo Choo. The Reds have gotten everything they wished for when they acquired Choo from the Indians this past offseason. A good teammate, good hitter and a good defender. He's played great baseball and he is set to earn a big contract in his first trip to the free agent market.

The Cincinnati Reds will "do everything we can" to re-sign impending free agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo this offseason, Reds general manager Walt Jocketty told the Cincinnati Enquirer.

With the Reds, Choo is in his first pennant race and he seems to be enjoying it as much as he can. Even though he will hit free agency at the end of the year, he isn't letting that affect him. He's going all out for his team and will do everything he possibly can to help them win.

Even though the Reds want to re-sign Choo, they may not have the money to do so. The Reds' payroll for 2014 is nearly $107 million, which is a record high for the team. If the Reds fail to re-sign Choo, they have top prospect Billy Hamilton ready to take over in center field. While his hitting is a big question mark, he certainly brings a spark to the top of the Reds lineup. Oh, did I mention he's fast? I didn't? Well, he's kind of fast. In nine games played this season, he has 10 stolen bases. If he continued that pace for a full season, he would have a record breaking 180 stolen bases. That's pretty amazing.

On the season, Choo is hitting .283 with 21 home runs and 52 RBI's. So far, the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs have shown interest in Choo and they figure to be the first of many teams to show interest in the 31-year old this offseason.

One Response to Reds Rumors: Cincinnati will do everything they can to re-sign Shin-Soo Choo

  1. signing Choo would be huge. The Reds can let Bronson go because they have Cingrani and they could trade..................Brandon Phillips. He is the best second baseman in baseball but now might be the time to trade him so we can sign Choo and make a long term play on Jay Bruce.
