New York Yankees’ star shortstop
Derek Jeter has arrived at Yankees’ Spring Training camp in Tampa, Florida.
Jeter will work out with the team, but he will not participate in the Yankees’
initial Spring Training games, which begin on February 23. Instead, he will
wait until at least early March to test his surgically repaired ankle in
full-speed game action.
Jeter has medical clearance to
begin full-speed workouts. USA Today’s MLB writer Bob Nightengale tweeted the
news on February 17.
Jeter says medically cleared to do everything but won't start playing spring training games until March

Nightingale also reports in
another tweet that Jeter has a permanently implanted plate and screws in his
ankle, which he broke during Game 1 the 2012 ALCS.
MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch recently
reported Jeter's statements that he feels fine, is ready to train, and has
medical permission to resume full workouts. Said Jeter, "I'm right where I need to be. I've gotten the OK to do
everything now…. I've gotten all the green lights I need."
When Jeter begins
playing games, he will likely start out as designated hitter. He is not
concerned about the number of at bats he gets; he is concerned about being
ready to play on Opening Day.

Permanent screws in the ankle? He had to re-learn to walk this winter per USA article today. Yankees DH job available with A-Rod out? I stand firmly by my comments published here November 16, Jeter will never be an everyday shortstop again!!
ReplyDeleteAs sad as it is, seems like you're right. We'll probably see Jeter at DH for upwards of 50-60 games this season.
