Boston Red Sox right-hander Alfredo Aceves had another
run-in with coaches recently, which has prompted rumors of his potential trade.
While Nick Cafardo doesn’t believe the pitcher could be flipped for someone
like Garrett Jones or Justin Smoak, he does believe an Aceves for Mike Carp
trade is realistic.
The Red Sox have been one of several teams tied to Carp
since he was designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners to clear roster
space for left-hander Joe Saunders.
Aceves struggled in 2012, posting an ERA over 5.00, but he
has showcased an ability to be a successful pitcher in the American League East
with the New York Yankees and Red Sox. For this reason, Cafardo believes the right-hander
should retain some trade value despite growing concerns about his character.
Beyond the Red Sox, the Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins
and Houston Astros have also been connected to Carp since his designation. The
Brewers figure to offer him the most playing time, at least early in the season
with injuries to Mat Gamel and Corey Hart, but they are reportedly not
interested in him at this point.

If it's possible to have negative trade value, Aceves has it. I want what Nick Cafardo is smoking.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what comes of Aceves. He's certainly not helping his cause if he wants to go elsewhere. I'm assuming the M's could have had him for Carp, but maybe they just didn't want him.
