Todd Zolecki of MLB.com spoke with Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. on the status of newly acquired outfileder Delmon Young.
Amaro stated that Young will be the only player in camp definitely behind schedule. Young is recovering from November microfracture surgery on his right ankle.
"He won't be able to get into real activities probably for a few weeks
after we open up, at least," Amaro said. "He might not be able to play
in games competitively until the middle of March. We don't know that,
but we'll see how he progresses once we see him."
The 27-year old slugger played only 31 games as and outfielder for the Tigers last season, DH'ing in a vast majority (118) of his appearances. With Philadelphia, of course, that restful luxury is not available.
Arriving off a fifteen hit postseason performance, Young is being counted on as an everyday outfielder by the Phillies.
