The Baltimore Orioles might consider signing free agent
Bobby Abreu, but they’re going to review the in-house options they already have
in camp first, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Abreu isn’t a clear fit for the Orioles at this point. While
the team has been in the market for an impact bat throughout the offseason, the
veteran certainly wouldn’t qualify.
Abreu did play the outfield for most of the 2012 season, but
he’s likely better suited for the role of designated hitter. The Orioles
already have Wilson Betemit and Russ Canzler as DH options. Betemit has hit
right-handed pitching well throughout his career, something that Abreu would
also offer as a left-handed hitter.
While Abreu’s not a clear fit, the Orioles could decide to
take a flier on him if the price is right. General manager Dan Duquette has
shown a proclivity for these sorts of investments, and he has preached the
importance of increasing the team’s on base percentage. While Abreu’s power has
declined precipitously over the years, he still has a good eye and has shown an
ability to get on at an above average clip.
