The New York Mets' injured closer is working on starting the throwing portion of his rehab program.  He has not thrown since suffering inflammation in his surgically-repaired elbow.  However, Frank Francisco is scheduled to start throwing next week.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Monday is the target date to get Francisco throwing.

Francisco was supposed to be ready for spring training after he had minor artroscopic surgery during the offseason.  However, he soon found himself feeling discomfort in the elbow.  When the swelling came, he was shut down.  In the mean time, the Mets have named Bobby Parnell their closer.

Francisco made 48 appearances last year for the Mets and had 23 saves.  He posted a 5.53 ERA, but the team is confident in his ability to close and had previously announced him as their closer before the set back.
