The Miami Marlins are a mess right now. They've traded away just about everyone on their team aside from Giancarlo Stanton and Logan Morrison. And we already know that Morrison has had his share of problems. Morrison has also been battling an injury, but he's getting closer to returning.
According to Morrison himself, the Marlins' outfielder has now been cleared to run on a treadmill. It's a big step as he works his way back from offseason knee surgery. Morrison was understandably excited about the medical milestone in his recovery.
Just got cleared to run.. on a treadmill.. In a anti gravity bubble.Baby step, but I'll take it. Never thought I was going to this excited
— Logan Morrison (@LoMoMarlins) February 19, 2013
Morrison underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last September. He is expected to be ready, or near ready, by Opening Day. Of course, that will all depend on how his rehab goes during the spring. Morrison still can't play in games or participate in all the drills.
The Marlins think they have something special in Morrison, but he will have to mature. He was sent back to the minors last year for what was thought to be attitude problems. The demotion may have hurt Morrison's overall numbers. Last season, he hit just .230/.308/.399. He's still just 25 and has only played in 278 Major League games.
