This winter, free agent Manny Ramirez announced that he
hoped to continue his playing career. He may get that opportunity, but it doesn’t
look like it will be with a MLB club. Ramirez is in talks to play for the EDA
Rhinos of the Taiwanese professional league, according to Jon Paul Morosi of
FOX Sports.

Ramirez hit well over the offseason in the Dominican Winter
League, prompting the 40-year-old to declare his intent to continue his
professional playing career.
However, teams haven’t exactly lined up to sign Manny, and
there hasn’t even been word of clubs extending him a minor league offer or an
invitation to spring training. For this reason he may elect to take his talents
and considerable baggage overseas.
Ramirez last appeared in the majors with the Tampa Bay Rays
during the start of the 2011 season. He retired after learning of his pending
ban for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, but he decided to
make a comeback attempt last season with the Oakland Athletics. After serving
his suspension, Manny wasn’t called up by the A’s. He requested his release and
the A’s met his demand.
Over 19 years in the majors Ramirez owns a career batting
line of .312/.411/.585 with 555 home runs and 1831 RBI.
