Following the signing of Michael Bourn, the Cleveland
Indians are receiving calls from teams interested in outfielders Michael Brantley and Drew Stubbs. While the current plan is for Cleveland to retain
both players, “folks” suspect Stubbs will be traded, according to Jon Heyman of
CBS Sports.
With Bourn on board, the Indians are left with four
outfielders for three spots, also including Stubbs, Brantley and Nick Swisher.
Some have questioned the merit of trading an outfielder, Brantley or Stubbs, to
ease this logjam. The Indians could also platoon Brantley and Stubbs in left or
right.
However, it appears that, at this point, manager Terry
Francona is ready to find playing time for all of the players involved. The
Indians’ outfield would consist of Stubbs, Brantley and Bourn – with Bourn in
center and the others manning the corners – Nick Swisher shifting to first base
and Mark Reynolds becoming the team’s regular designated hitter.
While this is the current plan, Heyman seems to expect a trade
to be completed prior to the start of the regular season. If that were to
happen, he’s said that Stubbs has become the odd man out and is now “eminently available.”

Cleveland, please do not trade Michael Brantley ! Brantley, A-Cab, Chisenhall, Kipnis, Santana are the future, which is now - its tribe time !
ReplyDeleteAnd Giambi , Reynolds, Swisher, Dice-K, reek of the past
ReplyDeletewhy is it every time Cleveland gets something going good that you media morons start figuring out a way to ruin it. you idiots in the media haven't even gotten thru February. since we haven't won anything since 1948 why not at least give us a chance. That's why we got Francona, how about we let him pick the team not you media morons.
ReplyDeleteBill, are you suggesting rumors are manufactured by the media?
ReplyDeletecubs want to trade soriano and will pay all but $10M of his salary- tribe can send them stubbs and a couple prospects
ReplyDeletealfonso can be the DH
thats an awesome trade if you are a cubs fan. The Indians do not need or should ever need to trade Stubbs for a wash up like Soriano
ReplyDeletelook at soraino's numbers- second best slugging % by an outfielder in MLB since 2010 (after N Cruz).
ReplyDeleteHe is a marginal fielder but would be an ideal DH.
