Giants rumors: San Francisco unlikely to re-sign Ryan Theriot

The chances of the San Francisco Giants re-signing free agent infielder Ryan Theriot are “very slim,” according to Henry Schulman of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Schulman notes that the reason a reunion is unlikely is that Theriot is hoping for a starting job or at least a significant amount of playing time. If the Giants do not re-sign Theriot, manager Bruce Bochy said that top three candidates to replace the veteran are Tony Abreu, Kensuke Tanake and Wilson Valdez.

Theriot signed with the Giants last offseason and hit .270/.316/.321 with 16 doubles over 384 plate appearances last season. The 33-year-old owns a career batting line of .281/.341/.350 over eight seasons at the major league level.
