The Los Angeles Dodgers aren't short players in very many positions. This is certainly true of shortstop. Hanley Ramirez moved bad to short when he came over from the Miami Marlins. This left Dee Gordon out in the cold. Actually, Gordon was nursing an injury, but now he's left out in the cold. The Albuquerque, New Mexico cold.
Gordon is expected to start the season with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque. He will still get Major League time here and there, but the Dodgers want to Gordon to develop more, and they have no where to play him. For this reason, Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times says the team will likely trade Gordon.
Gordon had a fantastic 2011 when he was called up late in the year. Based on his small sample size of work, the team felt he was ready to make the full-time jump. He wasn't. Gordon struggled through the 2012 season and eventually suffered a torn UCL in the thumb from sliding into second base.
Last year, Gordon hit .228/.280/.281 in 87 games. This came on the heels of Gordon's 2011 season in which he hit .304/.325/.362 in 56 games. Gordon has speed and talent, but the Dodgers do not have anywhere to put him. For this reason, Los Angeles may trade Gordon in the coming year or two.
