Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com has reported that the unlikely
Cleveland Indians have come to an agreement with All-Star outfielder Michael Bourn on a 4-year, 48-million dollar contract.
Bourn must still pass a physical later this week for the contract to go into
effect. Incentives could add a fifth year and an additional $12 million
dollars to the deal.
Bourn had been pursued by the Mets, and was rumored to be favoring
signing with New York.
The Wilpon owned cellar-dwellers, however, balked at giving up the number 11
draft pick, as signing Bourn would have dictated.
Cleveland
has had a winter overhaul, bringing in free agents Bourn, Steve Swisher, Mark Reynolds , Jason Giambi, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Brett Myers while trading for
outfielder Drew Stubbs and hurler Trevor Bauer. Giambi and Dice-K were
signed to minor league deals.
