Yankees Rumors: New York Still Seeking RH Bat

Even after adding right-handed-hitting outfielder Matt Diaz, the New York Yankees continue to look for “right-handed punch” versus left-handed pitchers, according to Joel Sherman of The New York Post.

Sherman adds that the Yankees “have no interest” in free agent outfielder Delmon Young. Despite Young’s solid career numbers against left-handed pitching, New York views him as a “horrible” outfielder. Beyond his defense, the 27-year-old’s recent anti-Semitic rant makes him “untenable in NYC,” according to Sherman.

Free agent Scott Hairston continues to be the most logical fit for the Yankees, but his price may be increasing as several other teams are said to be interested in the outfielder. While he’s been a career reserve for the most part, interest in the 32-year-old has gone up following his strong 2012 campaign during which he hit .263/.299/.504 with 25 doubles and 20 home runs for the New York Mets.
