The New York Yankees are interested in free agent slugger
Lance Berkman, according to Ken Davidoff of The New York Post, but it’s not clear if the veteran would consider returning to the Big Apple given the
interest of clubs from his home state of Texas.
The #Yankees are interested in Lance Berkman, but it's not clear whether he'd consider a return to NY given the Texas teams' involvement.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is a big believer in
the home run. While his club has lived and died by it in the recent past, there
is currently slated to be less long balls coming from the Yankees in 2013. Alex
Rodriguez will be sidelined for at least the first half of the season, while
Nick Swisher and Russell Martin have exited via free agency.
For this reason the Yankees could be looking to Berkman as a
source of power that won’t require a long-term contract.
At this point, the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Baltimore
Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox have all expressed some level of
interest in Berkman. He’s not sure if he’ll return for another season, but he
did say that the Texas teams have a leg up on the competition.
