Alex Rodriguez had his surgery as scheduled yesterday, and it went great say sources.  The New York Yankees slugger is expected to miss six months now that the surgery is complete.  This puts him back on the field sometime after the All-Star Game.

According to Steven Marcus of Newsday, Rodriguez's surgery went as planned and doctors were able to repair a labrum tear and impingement in his hip.  Rodriguez will begin light rehabilitation under the supervision of doctors shortly, then after he proves he can handle that, he will begin true rehab.


Rodriguez struggled throughout 2012.  In fact, he has struggled over his last two seasons.  This past season's problems were magnified by Rodriguez's dreadfully poor performance in the playoffs.  During the Winter Meetings it was revealed that Rodriguez had a torn labrum and would need surgery.

Rodriguez hit .272/.353/.430 with just 18 home runs last season.  He has had just 34 home runs in his past two seasons combined.  The Yankees are hoping the surgery will help Rodriguez get some of his power back and allow him to stay on the field more consistently.
