The Minnesota Twins have expressed interest in free agent
outfielder Scott Podsednik, according to Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500.
The Twins traded away a pair of outfielders, Denard Span and
Ben Revere, earlier this offseason, and they could view Podsednik as a
potential replacement. He hasn’t been a regular at the major league level over
the past few seasons, as he spent part of 2012 with the Boston Red Sox manning
each outfield position.
While Minnesota has expressed interest in Podsednik, they
aren’t interested in free agent shortstop Jason Bartlett and second baseman
Kelly Johnson. They have also cut off contact with free agent left-hander Manny
Parra and don’t appear to be interested in signing Armando Galarraga to a minor
league contract.
The Twins did show interest in veteran free agent Freddy
Garcia earlier this offseason, but they haven’t had contact with him for some
time. Wolfson adds that Minnesota didn’t have interest in Aaron Cook before he
signed his minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, and they also
never extended new Cincinnati Reds shortstop Cesar Izturis a contract offer.
