Scott Hairston may not have been one of the hottest free agents on the market, but he is talented and will be productive. And plenty of teams were interested in his services. The Chicago Cubs recognize that and signed Hairston to a two-year contract.
The deal is pending a physical, and as we have learned with Mike Napoli and Francisco Liriano, the physical is NOT a formality. However, if/when Hairston passes the physical, he will be a member of the Chicago Cubs says Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The deal is said to be worth $8 million over the two years with incentives that could bring more money in for Hairston.
The New York Mets were interested in re-signing Hairston, but their top offer had been a one-year, $3 million contract. Hairston was looking for a multi-year deal.
Hairston had one of the better years of his careers last season with the Mets. He played in a career-high 134 games (meaning he stayed healthier than any other season and proved himself on the field). Hairston also had a nice season at the plate. He hit .263/.299/.504 with 20 home runs - also a career-high. Hairston is a nine-year Major League veteran. He has hit .247/.302/.449 in his career.

Good signing. I hope it gets completed soon.
ReplyDeleteI generally see Hairston as an underrated player who helps every team he's on.
