Manuel Corpas has close ties to the Colorado Rockies. He pitched for them for five seasons before eventually being released. Now, after one season with the Chicago Cubs, the Rockies are giving Corpas another shot. They have given him a minor league contract.
The deal, like many of these minor league contracts for veterans, includes an invite to the big league camp at spring training says Thomas Harding of MLB.com. The Rockies believe Corpas could certainly help the bullpen in 2013, but they would like to see how he performs this spring.
Corpas missed the entire 2011 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He was released by the Rockies shortly after the injury was discovered, but Corpas landed with the Cubs. He pitched in 48 games last season, but he struggled. Corpas posted a 5.01 ERA.
Colorado hopes Corpas can bounce back after putting some distance between himself and his surgery. In his five seasons with the Rockies, Corpas posted a 3.93 ERA. He filled the closer's role for the Rockies in 2007 when the team reached the World Series. At 30 years old, Corpas could have some solid innings left in him.
