Rockies Rumors: Derek Lowe, Freddy Garcia, Brandon Webb

The Colorado Rockies continue to target starting pitching this winter, and while there is nothing currently brewing on the trade front, Troy Renck of The Denver Post expects the team to express interest in a trio of low-cost arms, including Derek Lowe, Freddy Garcia and Brandon Webb.

All three would require minimal commitments but have track records of success. While Lowe, Garcia and Webb have been successful pitchers at the major league level, each is at least a few years removed from it.

Lowe and Garcia each pitched at the major league level last season, as both spent time with the New York Yankees. Garcia started 17 games for New York while also pitching in relief, while Lowe was used strictly out of the ‘pen by the Yankees after starting 21 games for the Cleveland Indians.

Webb, on the other hand, hasn’t pitched in the bigs since the 2009 season. The former Cy Young winner has been hampered by arm injuries that have kept him out of baseball for the past several years, but he’s looking to make a comeback this season.
