Red Sox OF Ryan Kalish Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

Boston Red Sox outfielder Ryan Kalish underwent successful shoulder surgery yesterday, the team has announced.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum. It consisted of a right shoulder arthroscopy and posterior labrum repair. While he’s expected to make a full recovery following the surgery, Kalish isn’t likely to be available for spring training.

Kalish underwent labrum surgery before, but it was to his left shoulder following the 2011 season. He also had a bulging disk in his neck repaired in September 2011.

Injuries have continued to stall Kalish’s career, as the 24-year-old was in line to compete for playing time at the major league level this spring. He made his debut in 2010 and appeared in 36 games for the Red Sox last season.

Over parts of seven seasons at the minor league level, Kalish, a former top prospect, has hit .279/.366/.429.
