Phillies Rumors: Scott Hairston Best Fit for Philly?

The Philadelphia Phillies have been tied to veteran outfielders Alfonso Soriano and Vernon Wells this winter, but the best available fit may be free agent Scott Hairston, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.

That's a good question. If I can get any one of those guys, I probably take Hairston, although I wouldn't necessarily consider him an everyday player. First, you would think he would come at a reasonable price. He has good splits against left-handed pitchers, which is important. The Phillies also tried to acquire him in the past, which is important to remember.

The Phillies continue to target outfield help for their corner positions. While Zolecki likes Soriano, he’s not sure if a deal between Philadelphia and the Chicago Cubs will take place. He considers Wells his third option behind Soriano and Hairston.

Hairston has experience in the National League East, as the 32-year-old hit .263/.299/.504 with 25 doubles and 20 home runs last season for the New York Mets.
