The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres have held
on-and-off discussions about a trade involving outfielder Justin Upton and
third baseman Chase Headley since July, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX
Sports. While those talks have failed to progress, Rosenthal notes that the
Diamondbacks continue to discuss Upton with other clubs, including the Texas
Rangers and Seattle Mariners.
Justin Upton for Chase Headley?
The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres have held on-and-off discussions about a trade involving those players since July, but the talks have failed to progress, according to major-league sources.
The Diamondbacks are also discussing Jason Kubel with other
clubs. Arizona is expected to trade one of Kubel or Upton this winter after
signing Cody Ross.
The Rangers are hoping to acquire Upton from the
Diamondbacks for a package built around third baseman Mike Olt. However,
Arizona believes they can receive an even better deal for Upton from another
team, possibly the Mariners, according to Rosenthal.
