Orioles Rumors: O’s Open to Adding Reliever

While the bullpen was an area of strength last season and most all of their key contributors are set to return for the 2013 season, Baltimore Orioles general manager Dan Duquette said he’s open to adding another reliever this winter, reports Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun.

Last season, the bullpen was one of the Orioles' season-long strengths, and while the club’s corps of relievers returns intact in 2013, executive vice president Dan Duquette said he’s open to adding another bullpen arm this offseason.

The Orioles welcome back five locks to start the season in the their bullpen, including closer Jim Johnson, Pedro Strop, Darren O’Day, Luis Ayala and Troy Patton, according to Connolly. He adds that other 2012 key contributors, including Tommy Hunter and Brian Matusz, along with Rule 5 Draft choice T.J. McFarland, will vie for spots in the O’s ‘pen this spring.

Baltimore has recently been tied to right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom. The Orioles acquired Lindstrom last offseason from the Colorado Rockies along with Jason Hammel in exchange for Jeremy Guthrie. He was later dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Joe Saunders.
