Olney reported yesterday that the Diamondbacks are hoping to
trade one of Kubel or fellow outfielder Justin Upton sooner rather than later.
While Upton has garnered most of the offseason attention, Arizona could also
elect to deal Kubel.
The Orioles have been seeking an impact bat throughout the
offseason. General manager Dan Duquette has reportedly discussed multiple deals
but none have resulted in an acquisition.
Kubel has manned both corner outfield positions, though the
Orioles would use him in left field as Nick Markakis owns the everyday job in
right. The addition would push Nate McLouth into more of a reserve role, while
Nolan Reimold could potentially pick up some at-bats against left-handed
pitchers.
Arizona would likely target the Orioles young pitching in
exchange for Kubel. Baltimore has several young arms, including Chris Tillman,
Brian Matusz, Jake Arrieta and Zach Britton.
