Orioles Rumors: Baltimore Pursued Diamondbacks OF Justin Upton

The Baltimore Orioles showed “strong interest” in Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton a few weeks back, but talks have since sputtered as the O’s are returning their focus to starting pitchers, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun adds that it shouldn’t be surprising to see the Orioles express interest in Upton. He says Baltimore felt the Diamondbacks want “too much” for the young slugger.

Beyond Upton, the Orioles have also been tied to Diamondbacks outfielder Jason Kubel. With the signing of Cody Ross and presence of Gerardo Parra, Arizona is expected to trade one of Upton or Kubel this winter.

The Orioles have been targeting an impact bat and starting pitcher this offseason. After their run at Upton, the team is now once again focusing on arms. Joe Saunders continues to be the name most-tied to the Orioles
