The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are among the teams
to call the Washington Nationals regarding first baseman/outfielder Mike Morse.
Soon after the Nationals re-signed Adam LaRoche, the Yankees
called Washington to inquire on Morse, according to Jack Curry of The YES
Network. At the time, the Nationals weren’t ready to discuss a trade, but Curry
believes the two teams will “eventually talk.”
As the Mike Napoli situation continues to drag on without a resolution
in sight, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes the Red Sox could view Morse as
a fallback option of sorts. Boston is one of the clubs that has reached out to
Washington regarding Morse, according to Rosenthal, and it’s been said that
they’ve continued seeking options at first base.
Morse figures to be an attractive option for both clubs
given the relatively reduced commitment he requires. The slugger will be
entering the final year of his contract in 2013, which will pay him $7 million.
