Mets Rumors: Michael Bourn, New York Continue Negotiations

The New York Mets are continuing negotiations with free agent outfielder Michael Bourn, according to Mike Puma of The New York Post. However, Bourn is still seeking a five-year commitment, an offer the Mets are unwilling to extend at this point.

Not only are the Mets hesitant to offer Bourn the number of years he and agent Scott Boras are seeking, but New York also doesn’t want to surrender its first-round pick in order to sign the free agent center fielder. Instead, the Mets are seeking a ruling from Major League Baseball that would allow them to send the Atlanta Braves their second-round pick, not No. 11 overall, if they were to sign Bourn.

Until these hurdles are cleared, it wouldn’t appear that the Mets are not a likely landing spot for Bourn. Still, no team is a clear fit at this point, so New York figures to continue to be tied to the speedster until he signs elsewhere.
