Marlins Rumors: Could Rays Acquire Giancarlo Stanton?

There continues to be rumblings that the Miami Marlins will trade Giancarlo Stanton “if the price is right,” according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe. Cafardo goes on to wonder whether or not the Tampa Bay Rays could have what it would take to convince Miami to part ways with Stanton.

There continues to be rumblings that the Marlins will deal Stanton if the price is right. Some wonder whether Tampa Bay has what Miami wants to make it happen.

The Rays are usually the team trading away top established talent before they become too expensive. Stanton is established, but he’s different than most high-profile players in that he’s only 23 and his current team is reportedly considering trading him.

Stanton isn’t yet arbitration eligible, and he won’t hit the free agent market until 2017, so even if the Rays project to eventually part ways with him due to salary concerns they could still get several years of affordable use out of the slugger. Cafardo notes that Tampa Bay could use it’s bevy of young arms along with recently-acquired outfielder Wil Myers to pry Stanton away from Miami.

  1. I'm all for the Rays getting Giancarlo, but they gotta do it right now, before the pitchers all leave for greener pastures.
