Javier Vazquez Rumors: Red Sox, Blue Jays, Nationals Interested in RHP

The Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals have been among the teams that have scouted free agent right-hander Javier Vazquez, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com.

It’s been reported that Vazquez may be interested in returning to Major League Baseball after taking the 2012 season off. The right-hander never formally announced his retirement from the game, as he was apparently keeping the door open.

Now, Vazquez is coming off a strong campaign in the winter league and is set to pitch in the World Baseball Classic. He will reportedly make a decision on whether or not he’ll pursue a comeback after the WBC.

If Vazquez does decide to return to MLB, he will want to join a contender. The Nationals have interest in signing Vazquez to a minor league contract. His potential deal would likely include an option that would allow him to void the contract if he’s not on the team’s major league roster by a certain date.

It’s not clear if the Blue Jays and Red Sox would be willing to hand the veteran a major league deal, but it does seem like the interest in Vazquez is growing.
