The San Francisco Giants have not given up on right-hander
Tim Lincecum long-term, as the team has considered signing The Freak once he
reaches the free agent market after the 2013 season, according to Henry
Schulman of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Schulman adds that the Giants have taken consideration of a
potential Lincecum deal when making budgetary decisions on long-term deals for
other players.
Lincecum has always preferred to keep his contracts short,
maximizing his annual salary in the process. However, following his down season
in 2012, it’s unknown if a team will be interested in providing the
right-hander a significant long-term contract once he hits the open market.
If Lincecum continues to go one or two years at a time,
there figures to be significant interest in him despite his rough stretch in
2012. Last year he posted an ugly 5.18 ERA over 33 starts, but he and the
Giants are hoping he’ll return to his previous Cy Young-winning form in 2013.
