Giants Deal With Mason Tobin Includes Invite to Major League Camp

The San Francisco Giants are looking to continue to improve despite winning the World Series last year.  That's what all good teams do.  Even minor moves are designed to reinforce the major ones.  One such minor move came earlier this month when the Giants signed Mason Tobin to a minor league contract.  The Giants, though, will give Tobin a shot at getting back to the Major League level.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says the deal for Tobin includes an invite to Major League spring training.

As Rosenthal points out, Tobin missed the entire 2012 season after suffering a torn UCL.  He underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2011 and missed the second half of that season as well.  He is expected to be ready for the start of the 2012 season if the Giants choose to give him a spot on the 25-man roster.

Tobin is just 25 years old, but he has limited experience in the Majors up to this point.  He pitched in half of the 2011 season for the Texas Rangers, and that's it.  In that season, Tobin appeared in just four games and posted a 6.75 ERA.  The young reliever was released last March.
