Free agent outfielder Scott Hairston continues to negotiate
with the New York Mets and Yankees and is expected to make a decision on where
to play in 2013 in “a matter of days,” according to Wallace Matthews of ESPN
New York.
According to Casey Close, Hairston's agent, talks are continuing with both teams and Hairston expects to make a decision about where he will play in 2013 in "a matter of days."
Close told Matthews that, while he views either team has a “good
fit,” he and Hairston are deciding “which option is best.”
If Hairston re-signs with the Mets he will be an everyday
player, while he’ll likely fill a reserve role with the Yankees considering the
presence of Brett Gardner and Ichiro Suzuki, according to Matthews. The free
agent is seeking a multi-year commitment, something the Yankees could be
hesitant to hand out.
Hairston hit .263/.299/.504 with 25 doubles and 20 home runs
over 377 at-bats last season with the Mets.
