The Los Angeles Dodgers have been mulling whether or not to
make a run at free agent third baseman Scott Rolen in an effort to strengthen the
left side of their infield, according to Bill Shaikin of The Los Angeles Times.
The Dodgers have had internal discussions about whether to pursue third baseman Scott Rolen, according to a person familiar with the team's thinking.
The Dodgers have not yet reached out to Rolen to gauge his interest
in joining the team. It’s previously been reported that the veteran would
prefer to sign with a team that is close to his Indiana home.
Rolen has spent the past few seasons with the Cincinnati
Reds. He’s currently a free agent, but he hasn’t yet decided if he’s going to
retire or return for another year.
LA currently plans on entering the spring with Hanley
Ramirez and Luis Cruz as their everyday players at shortstop and third base,
though Shaikin notes the team continues to explore potential depth signings at
both positions. With many free agents remaining unsigned, Shaikin says the
Dodgers continue to sift through the pile to see which players may help their
team next season.
