Cubs Rumors: Matt Garza, Alfonso Soriano on Trade Block?

Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano remains on the trade block, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, and right-hander Matt Garza could join him once he regains his health, reports Jim Bowden of ESPN.

Soriano could still be moved before the start of spring training, according to Cafardo. Teams like the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers could be fits as they are looking “to make last-minute moves to improve.”

However, the Cubs won’t simply trade Soriano for nothing, as he proved productive in 2012 and Chicago’s front office covets his clubhouse presence.

When it comes to Garza, at this point the Cubs’ focus is on getting him healthy and back into their starting rotation. However, Bowden notes that this could change closer to the 2013 trade deadline as Garza is in the final year of his current contract and Chicago continues to target young talent.
