Brewers Rumors: Milwaukee Interested in Lyle Overbay

The Milwaukee Brewers are talking to free agent first baseman Lyle Overbay about a potential minor league contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Rosenthal adds that Overbay is also speaking with other clubs, and the veteran is expected to make a decision soon. He notes that Overbay would back up Mat Gamel, who’s expected to see regular time at first base in place of the injured Corey Hart.

It was reported yesterday that the Brewers were seeking a first baseman to add to their roster in place of Hart, who’s expected to miss the first two months of the regular season after undergoing knee surgery. Overbay was one of the candidates mentioned as a possible fit.

Overbay spent the 2012 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Atlanta Braves. Over 116 combined at-bats, the 36-year-old hit .259/.331/.397 with 10 doubles and two home runs. He’s hit .270/.353/.438 over 12 seasons at the major league level.
