Neither Justin Upton nor Michael Bourn has been ruled out by the Braves, though Bourn still seems unlikely given that he would have to take far less money and a much shorter contract than what Scott Boras continues to seek despite the seemingly diminished market for the speedy leadoff man and center fielder.

O’Brien says that Atlanta has the payroll room to add another “significant salary,” adding that Wren has spoken with Bourn’s agent Scott Boras recently. However, they haven’t started negotiations involving Bourn, as his price tag will likely have to come down before the Braves consider him.

O’Brien also notes that Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez recently reached out to Bourn, though Atlanta’s skipper will not confirm or deny this report.

The Braves have already added B.J. Upton this offseason, and O’Brien thinks there’s a chance the club could also acquire his brother. He doesn’t expect this to happen if Arizona’s asking price hasn’t dropped from where it was in the deal agreed upon with the Seattle Mariners.
