Though they haven’t been among the team’s mentioned in the
Michael Bourn sweepstakes, Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe wonders if the
Toronto Blue Jays could be a fit for the free agent outfielder.
Cafardo says that the Washington Nationals signing of free
agent closer Rafael Soriano should remind everyone to never underestimate super-agent
Scott Boras’ ability to create a market for his clients. Bourn, another Boras
client, hasn’t received much attention this winter, but that could change
quickly.
The Blue Jays already have a center fielder on their roster
in Colby Rasmus. However, Cafardo notes that Toronto could trade him if they
were to add Bourn.
While Cafardo believes this is a longshot, it doesn’t appear
to be something that is at all likely to happen. Blue Jays general manager Alex
Anthopoulos prefers to do much of his significant dealing via trade, as
evidenced by the acquisitions of R.A. Dickey, Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Josh
Johnson this offseason.
