Yankees Rumors: NY Remains Interested in Scott Hairston

Even after reaching an agreement with free agent Matt Diaz, the New York Yankees still have interest in signing another outfielder and are continuing to target Scott Hairston, according to Kevin Kernan of The New York Post.

The Yankees still have an interest in signing another outfielder and remain interested in Scott Hairston.

At this point the Yankees have a projected starting outfield that includes Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson and Ichiro Suzuki. All three hit from the left side, leading many to believe the Yankees were in the market for a right-handed-hitting outfielder.

Diaz fits that bill, but his signing apparently hasn’t stopped the club’s pursuit of Hairston. The 32-year-old hit .263/.299/.504 with 25 doubles, 20 home runs and eight stolen bases in 10 attempts last season for the New York Mets. He owns a career OPS of .751 over nine seasons at the major league level.
