The market for free agent Michael Bourn continues to
develop, and there is some that believe the New York Yankees are “quietly
interested” in the center fielder, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston
Globe.
It will be interesting to see where Bourn’s market goes. Some believe the Yankees are quietly interested and will pounce if the price comes down, which would give them the leadoff hitter they have wanted for some time. The Rangers remain a possibility.
Cafardo adds that some believe the Yankees could “pounce” on
Bourn if his price comes down. He would provide them with the leadoff hitter “they
have wanted for some time.”
The Yankees have a need in the outfield after watcher Nick
Swisher leave via free agency. They’ve re-signed Ichiro Suzuki but there is
thought that the team is still in the outfield market.
Beyond the Yankees, Cafardo notes the Texas Rangers are
another team that is a possible fit for Bourn. Considering they’ve missed out
on other top free agents, including Zack Greinke, Josh Hamilton, Mike Napoli
and Anibal Sanchez, the Rangers could turn to the market’s next best options in
Bourn and Swisher.
