There have been reports that the New York Yankees have been
quietly pursuing free agent center fielder Michael Bourn this offseason.
However, there is “no chance” that the Yankees will sign, or even pursue, Bourn
despite rumors to the contrary, reports Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York.
According to the proverbial "source with knowledge," there is "no chance" the Yankees will sign, or even pursue, Bourn, the speedy free-agent center fielder who spent the last two seasons in Atlanta, despite recent rumors to the contrary.
The Yankees entered the offseason with a need in the
outfield considering Nick Swisher hit the free agent market and isn’t expected
to re-sign with the club. New York did ink Ichiro Suzuki, but there is thought
that they are still in the market for an outfielder.
However, Matthews lays out several reasons why Bourn is not
a fit for the Yankees; the price tag is too high, he’s a left-handed hitter
while the Yankees are seeking a righty and New York already has a center
fielder in Curtis Granderson.
