The New York Yankees got some bad news in the midst of winter meetings that are designed to normally improve a team for the next year. Their All-Star third baseman, Alex Rodriguez, will likely miss time at the start of the 2013 season because of a lingering hip issue he was battling toward the end of the 2012 season.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York post, Alex Rodriguez was playing with a tear in his previously repaired hip. He will need additional surgery.

A-Rod will miss at least piece of '13. Hope is surgery will allow for successful player again for #YankeesRodriguez had a poor year in 2012 and missed time due to a broken hand. Now, it seems part of his performance issues could have been from the re-tear. The Yankees hope he will return to form after this surgery. Unfortunately, it will cost him some time and New York will have to find a third baseman to replace him in the mean time.
