MLB.com reports that CC Sabathia, the American Leagues' 2007 Cy Young Award Winner and current New York Yankee ace, is due to start throwing again following his October elbow surgery.
A bone spur in his pitching elbow hampered Sabathia's 2012 season. The Vallejo, California native was forced to the disabled list in August when the elbow flared up, but was able to return to the Yankees' rotation for the final stretch, making eight starts and splitting six decisions after his re-activation.
C.C. compiled 200 innings and 15 victories for the AL East Champs, his lowest totals in those categories since 2006. He made three post-season starts, beating division rival Baltimore twice in the ALDS before suffering an 11-hit beating in just three and two-thirds innings against the Detroit Tigers in the clinching game of the ALCS.
The bone spur was removed on October 25. Sabathia was scheduled to begin throwing immediately following Christmas. The expectations are for him to be ready to take his turn atop the rotation on Opening Day, 2013.
