The New York Mets parted ways with outfielder Jason Bay earlier this offseason.  He has since signed with the Seattle Mariners.  While the move was a necessary one, one that cost the Mets money in which they will get no return on, the team still needs and wants to find some more outfield help.  So it's no surprise that they have actively been pursuing and outfield addition.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets could have another outfielder in place this week.

Also, it sounds as if the Mets may have a new OF addition in the next few days. Front office has been working on something.

The team has previously been rumored to be interested in Cody Ross.  However, it seems they may go in a different direction.  They will be looking for a player who won't break the bank, but will provide enough return that they can be competitive.  The team is not likely to compete next season, but they are building for two or three years from now.

Bay was supposed to be a cornerstone of the Mets' offense for years to come.  However, he suffered through injuries and poor production.  The Mets simply couldn't afford to wait and see if he would recover and bounce back.  They released him in November.  Bay hit just .234/.318/.369 in his three years with the Mets.
