Twins Rumors: Team Shopping Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau?

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan told MLB Radio Network during an interview yesterday that he is willing to listen to trade offers for catcher Joe Mauer and first baseman/designated hitter Justin Morneau.

The Twins are in need of pitching, as they entered the offseason with only one starter, left-hander Scott Diamond, penciled into their 2013 rotation. Yesterday they traded young center fielder Ben Revere to the Phillies for a pair of arms, including Vance Worley and Trevor May, but they still have work to do filling out their rotation for next season.

Trading Mauer and/or Morneau would free up the salary space the Twins need to sign free agent starters, as the team’s reportedly been targeted veteran arms, including Brett Myers, Kevin Correia and John Lannan. Minnesota could also shop the veteran sluggers in hopes of adding starting pitching via trade like they did with Revere.
