Twins Rumors: Minnesota Eyeing Blanton, Correia, Myers

The Minnesota Twins are targeting starting pitching to add to their major league rotation, and they’re eyeing several free agents, including Joe Blanton, Kevin Correia and Brett Myers, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

With that deal complete, the Twins now turn their attention to acquiring some immediate help for a rotation that went 39-75 with a 5.40 ERA in 2012. It's not a reach to say they're pitching-obsessed.

The Twins entered the offseason with only one starter penciled into their 2013 rotation, left-hander Scott Diamond. While they were able to flip outfielder Denard Span for Alex Meyer, a prospect who could turn into a top-of-the-rotation starter down the road, they need bodies to fill out their staff for next season.

Minnesota will likely pass on high-profile arms, including Zack Greinke, Anibal Sanchez, Ryan Dempster and even Edwin Jackson, according to Crasnick. The Twins will instead settle into the lower-level of free agent options, including Blanton, Correia and Myers, who says he wants to be a starter next season.

Beyond Blanton, Correia and Myers the Twins may also look at several non-tendered arms, including John Lannan and Mike Pelfrey, as well as veteran free agent Vicente Padilla.
