Tigers Rumors: Pirates, Rangers, Angels Fits for Rick Porcello?

With their surplus of pitching after re-signing Anibal Sanchez, the Detroit Tigers are expected to trade one of their extra arms, most likely Rick Porcello. The Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels are three possible fits for Porcello, according to Tony Paul of the Detroit News.

The Pirates have what Paul considers to be “a dandy trade chip” in right-handed closer Joel Hanrahan. He notes that the Tigers could look to add Hanrahan as a proven finisher this season in order to bridge the gap to 21-year-old Bruce Rondon.

After missing out on Josh Hamilton and Zack Greinke the Rangers could “feel pressure to do something” this winter. Shortstop Elvis Andrus “would be a massive upgrade, especially defensively, over Jhonny Peralta,” says Paul.

Since the Angels went all-in on Hamilton, they could also look to upgrade their suspect starting rotation. While they’ve been able to add Tommy Hanson and Joe Blanton already this offseason, they could look to acquire Porcello rather than spend more on the free agent market. LA is expected to trade one of their extra outfielders, including Kendrys Morales, Peter Bourjos and Mark Trumbo, this offseason.
