Now that the Detroit Tigers have re-signed right-hander
Anibal Sanchez, the team is making Rick Porcello available in trade. The
Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres are among the teams interested in

It was reported that the Tigers had been willing to listen
to offers on Porcello since the offseason began. Now that they inked Sanchez,
they have the flexibility to move the young right-hander to fill other areas of
need.
Along with Sanchez and Porcello, the Tigers have four other
viable starting options to make up their 2013 rotation, including Justin
Verlander, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister and Drew Smyly.
Smyly and Porcello are each 23 years old and are former
high-round draft picks. However, Smyly is under team control for three more
years than Porcello and posted a superior 2012 campaign.
The Pirates and Padres have both been in the market for
starting pitching this winter. Beyond Porcello, San Diego has also recently
been tied to free agent right-hander Edwin Jackson.
