If the Tigers want to trade Rick Porcello, they'll have no problem finding a taker.
Plenty of teams are interested, and quite a few National League teams asked about him at last week's winter meetings, sources say.
While there is a high level of interest in Porcello, Knobler notes that the right-hander “isn’t available” for the time being. However, that could change if the Tigers add a starting pitcher, such as free agent Anibal Sanchez, this winter.
If Detroit does acquire a starter, they would be left with six viable arms to choose from to fill their five-man rotation, including Porcello, Sanchez, Justin Verlander, Doug Fister, Max Scherzer and Drew Smyly.
While Detroit currently has a relatively solid starting five, they have pursued pitching this winter. Before he was traded to the Kansas City Royals, Detroit pursued right-hander James Shields. They’ve also been tied to Sanchez.
