While it’s been reported that the Detroit Tigers are
expected to trade starting pitcher Rick Porcello following the signing of
Anibal Sanchez, the club is also “taking calls” on left-hander Drew Smyly,
reports Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.
Tigers are taking calls on Smyly as well as Porcello. Not committed to trading either one, but with tons of interest, I'm guessing one goes.

Knobler notes that the Tigers are not committed to trading
either Porcello or Smyly at this point, but he guesses that if a “ton of
interest” is expresses one will be dealt.
Once the Tigers re-signed Sanchez, they boasted a staff of
six viable starting candidates, including Sanchez, Porcello, Smyly, Justin
Verlander, Max Scherzer and Doug Fister.
Considering Porcello is currently more expensive and under
team control for three years less than Smyly, most expected the right-hander
would be the more likely of the pair to be traded this winter. I would ultimately
expect one of the two to be dealt.

I hope they do trade one of the two. It just wouldn't be right to make one of these two young talents spend the year in Toledo. Both of these guys are big league pitchers and should have that chance. Porcello has won in double figures every year he has been in the bigs and is only 23 years old. He can do that for another 10 years or so. Just about every team in the league can use that type of pitcher. Smyly is another young guy that has a good upside. He can pitch in the bigs for another 10 years also.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much more interested the Padres will be now that they are out on Edwin Jackson?
