It wasn't quite a blockbuster, but the Arizona Diamondbacks finally pulled the trigger on a trade last night.  After hearing nothing but rumors about a potential Justin Upton trade all winter, the Diamondbacks made a trade - it just didn't involve Upton.  Arizona was involved in a three-team deal that sent of of their top pitching prospects, Trevor Bauer, to the Cleveland Indians.

According to Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks sent Bauer, Matt Albers, and Bryan Shaw to the Indians in exchange for shortstop prospect Didi Gregorius.  The Cincinnati Reds had shipped Gregorius to the Indians as part of a deal that landed them Shin-Soo Choo.  In total, the trade involved three teams and nine players.


The centerpieces of this deal are Trevor Bauer and Didi Gregorius.  Bauer was the number three pick in the 2011 draft and made his Major League debut this past season.  He suffered a groin strain in his debut and struggled after his call-up.  Bauer is still considered one of the better pitching prospects in the game, though.  Gregorius has drawn comparisons to a young Derek Jeter.  He debuted in September and played in eight games.  In those games, he hit .300/.300/.300 (six singles).

Gregorius is expected to be the shortstop of the future for the Diamondbacks.  They were missing a long-term solution at short ever since they dealt Stephen Drew.  Now they have it.

The Reds received Choo who did not want to be in Cleveland any longer.  Choo has been in the league for eight seasons.  He has hit .289/.391/.465 in his career.  While the Reds lost Drew Stubbs to the Indians in the deal, they will still have a stacked outfield with the addition of Choo.
